This is a live jazz gig listings service from Jazz in Reading. We feature mostly modern jazz gigs happening within 20 miles or so of Reading.

The listings used to be published monthly, under the name 'Jazz Round About Reading', but all gigs now appear in the calendar, the link for which is below left. Check it out whenever you feel the urge to hear live jazz. Don't forget to refresh your browser each time you visit, to be sure of catching all latest changes or additions. Please check with venues before setting off - all details may be subject to change.

Guildford Jazz: SOULTIME!

Dedicated to the repertoire of the pianist Bobby Timmons, SoulTime! pays homage to a figure whose influence during the late 1950s and early 60s on Hard-Bop and Soul-Jazz often goes unacknowledged. The sextet led by tenor player Mark Crooks and vibraphonist Nat Steele celebrate this collaboration, playing selections from their 1958 album. Always on the look out to offer something unique to put before our jazz-loving audience, we were approached by Chris Sansom with the concept a ten piece band performing his compositions, first incubated in the creative juices by Chris in the 1970s, using ‘classical’ principles, incorporating the musical vocabulary and sounds of jazz and rock.

Thurs 24 Oct | El Chamuyo Jazz Tango | The quartet performs a wide sweep of Argentinian tango music, from the golden era of the 1920s and ’30s, through to the tango nuevo masterpieces of Piazzolla, and on to contemporary composers.
